bonito shaver and dashi broth bags

I just joined a Japanese potluck club geared for moms and their kiddos. Every other month they choose an ingredient and then everyone prepares a dish to share using that ingredient. This month was dashi, a type of broth usually made out of fish.I learned though that there are as many different types of dashi as there are way to prepare it.

One of the moms taught me a very important kanji to look for on bags "no artificial ingredients".


It was fun to sample the myriads of ways to utilize this simple ingredient. All were tasty and healthy.
